“As Democrats reflect on this past election, it is crucial that they emphasize the importance of introspection — specifically, introspection about their outward focus. Clearly, swing voters, moderate voters, and former/possible conservative voters are a crucial demographic for the Democrats if they hope to win general elections. One of the ways that Democrats, particularly liberal creatives and commentators like myself, have tried to win is by simply observing bad things that Trump and the GOP do, over and over again, and believing that these things will be problems for this crucial voter base — after it’s been almost a decade since Trump came down that escalator. We need to think about what arguments will actually be persuasive to Trump’s supporters or those who overlooked him as a threat — that’s certainly going to be my main focus as a political cartoonist in the coming years. It’s go-time — we can’t let this regime stay in power longer.”-AB
